A Note From Dastan Khalili & Sheefteh Khalili

Cal-Earth is returning to Australia! In 2011 we hosted two wonderful workshops at CERES community environment park which resulted in an amazing dome that is used by children in their creative play area.

We are excited to announce our next workshop just outside Melbourne, Australia at Wattle Park Primary School. We will be constructing a dome in the playground of this lovely school that has a kitchen garden program and Permaculture garden.

  The following Subjects will be taught:
The Principle of the Arch, Superadobe Basics, Soils Practicum and Discussion, Learning to Read Blueprints, Superadobe & Plaster with Stabilized Earth, Elements of Design, Dome Geometry, Waterproofing, Foundations, Site planning & Orientation and Simple Solar Passive Strategies.

Australian Workshop

Workshop Dates:

January 13-18, 2014
January 21-26, 2014

Application Procedure:

  1. Fill out the official Cal-Earth Application
  2. Pay the required $200 deposit
  3. Once we receive your application and deposit we will email you with all the additional information regarding the workshop
  4. The balance of your tuition must be paid no later than January 5, 2014.

Tuition Costs:

  • Application and Deposit received by 15 December 2013: $1050 USD
  • Application and Deposit received after 15 December 2013: $1250 USD
  • Groups of 2 or more people will receive 10% discount per person
  • Some partial scholarships are available

Cal-Earth (The California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture) is a 501 (C)3 non-profit/charitable foundation at the cutting edge of Earth and Ceramic Architecture technologies today. Founded in 1986 by its director, Nader Khalili (1936-2008), its scope spans technical innovations published by NASA for lunar and Martian construction, to housing design and development for the world's homeless for the United Nations.

Continuing in his tradition, Khalili's associates and apprentices are dedicated to research and education of the public in environmentally oriented arts and architecture. Its philosophy is based on the equilibrium of the natural elements of earth, water, air, fire, and their Unity at the service of the arts and humanity.
